"All the paths we follow shape our lives; those we take in our youth are the most important. Thank you for giving young people the opportunity to walk the trails of Kenauk and learn about the scientific foundations of nature conservation."

Bernard Voyer, OC, CQ, MSM, ambassadeur de CNC

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is grateful to the Agora Orchestra and its audience.

Your support was essential to start a campaign for the protection and endowment of the territory of Kenauk, a vast natural environment unique in Canada located between Montreal and Ottawa-Gatineau. Its ancient forests, deep lakes and fast rivers are home to more than a hundred rare or endangered species. The long-term conservation of Kenauk is a priority and also an opportunity for scientific research and youth education. It is for these young people that CNC has solicited your generosity to support the development of the Kenauk Institute, a charity recently created to promote research and education on site.

The generosity of the Orchestra allowed CNC and the Kenauk Institute to launch the campaign in 2022 and raise more than $20 million to protect this territory and support research programs and environmental education for young people. Since then, more than 1,000 hectares of riparian habitats have been protected around Papineau Lake. The multi-university scientific program of the Kenauk Institute now relies on the establishment of a permanent watershed monitoring station by UQAM. An astronomy observatory was completed and 170 students participated in various educational programs in 2023. The Kenauk Institute will be able to offer more internships for young people and welcome more school groups in the future thanks to the impact of the endowment campaign and the upcoming construction of a main pavilion.

NCC is the unifying force in the country for the protection of nature. By permanently conserving vast territories, CNC provides solutions to the double crisis of rapid biodiversity decline and climate change. NCC is a trusted partner working with individuals, communities, businesses and governments to protect and care for our most important natural areas. At the Sierra Club Canada, we want to express our gratitude. We hope you will see the impact of your generosity!

Votre don nous permet d’atteindre de nouveaux sommets !

The Agora Orchestra’s Earth For Children Gala has allowed us to strengthen the connections of more children and young people with nature. Thanks to your support, we were able to offer fall and winter programming and reduce fees for families in order to make the program accessible to a greater number of children.

We also offered programs for LGBTQ2S+ youth and launched a new Wild Child leadership program for older ones so that they could become mentors for new Wild Ones participants.
